In today’s video we talk nutrition. If you take a food conscious hipster and a fat McDonalds eater, they are both ingesting nutrition of some form. However, one cares about the food he/she puts in themselves and the other doesn’t. People don’t realise the importance of nutrition and eating the right things.

The wonderful nutritionist Heidu gives us some awesome knowledge on how to maintain optimum health. She tells us that finding the balance is essential not just in a work / life balance but also in nutrition. She uses the metaphor of building blocks and applies it to nutrition. We are reminded that we have millions of cells and chemical reactions taking place in our bodies but how each reaction requires a catalyst. Mrs Du preez tells us about enzymes and how you actually lose a lot of the health benefits by heating up food to beyond 45degrees.

Nutrition, nourishment, or aliment, is the supply of materials – food – required by organisms and cells to stay alive. In science and human medicine, nutrition is the science or practice of consuming and utilizing foods. The human body requires seven major types of nutrients. Not all nutrients provide energy but are still important, such as water and fibre. Micronutrients are important but required in smaller amounts. Vitamins are essential organic compounds that the human body cannot synthesize.

Eating a balanced diet is vital for good health and wellbeing. Food provides our bodies with the energy, protein, essential fats, vitamins and minerals to live, grow and function properly. We need a wide variety of different foods to provide the right amounts of nutrients for good health. We really learn about the science behind food in this video and it’s really worth watching.
